Head-Royce School COVID-19/Health/Illness Protocols:

Updated January 9, 2024

The health and safety of our community is a top priority at Head-Royce School, and we continue to follow Alameda County Public Health Department and the California Department of Public Health COVID-19 guidelines and protocols as they relate to COVID-19/ and other illnesses and/or viruses.

CAMPUS HEALTH + SAFETY

Illness Policy

Do not come to school if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever over 100° F  (37° C). Your child may return to school 24 hours after their fever falls below 100° F without the aid of fever reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Advil)
  • Nausea or vomiting. If your student has vomited within or less than 24 hours before the start of the next school day, do not send them to school
  • Diarrhea
  • Eyes that are red, swollen, crusted or draining
  • Untreated, draining ears or earache
  • Severe sore throat
  • Skin rashes of unknown origin or a contagious rash

Once your student returns to school, for the duration of their upper respiratory symptoms, please note that wearing a mask will limit the spread to others.

Masking

After testing positive for COVID-19, mask indoors when you are around other people for 10 days, unless you are a student and have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart.

Employees must mask indoors for 10 days post positive COVID-19 results or onset of symptoms  regardless of their test status.

Thoughtful masking is recommended to those exhibiting symptoms and testing negative for COVID-19.

Vaccination

In addition to requiring that all employees be fully vaccinated, we strongly recommend that every student get vaccinated and boosted. Vaccination is an essential step to keeping our community as safe as possible.

Preventive Hygiene

We encourage students and employees to use good preventive hygiene practices:

  • Sanitize or wash hands before and after eating, and after using the restroom. Note: Students and employees can find hand sanitizing stations at key locations across campus, including at every classroom entrance.
  • Refrain from touching your eyes, nose or mouth and cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.

Ventilation

Ventilation is essential to reducing the chance of transmission of viruses. Head-Royce has implemented ACHCSA’s (Alameda County Health Care Services Agency) Guidance on ventilation in all buildings and rooms.

  • Indoor Air Filtration: Wherever possible, classrooms and offices have been retrofitted with Merv 13 air filters to maximize the ACH (Air Changes per Hour) rate.

Visitor Policy

  •  Visitors should self-monitor symptoms and refrain from coming to campus when not feeling well.
